Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician Trainee to join our team at Kaiser Permanente in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a variety of semi-technical and clerical duties, including filling, packaging, and providing medication to patients.
  • Restock medications to fixed levels and compound or repackage according to established policies and procedures.
  • Process cash, check, or credit card payments for collectible services.
  • Assist with inputting patient and prescription information to produce labels and assist in the prescription filling process.
  • Match prescriptions with labels and select the proper drug and quantity to be dispensed.
  • Prepare adequate supplies of medication for unit dose distribution.
  • Process Clinic and Hospital Drug Requisitions, receive, fill, and update unit dose cassettes.
  • Assist with and/or provide medication, OTC products, or supplies to patients in a helpful and caring manner.
  • Pick-up and deliver medications and supplies to designated areas or persons per schedule.
  • Calculate prices for prescriptions or orders, sell non-prescription drugs, and collect cash, check, or credit card payments.
  • Balance monies, checks, and credit card charge documents daily against cash register receipts.
  • Gather and compute data and information for various needs pertaining to health plans, non-plan, special, and routine reports, studies, and statistics.
  • Maintain accurate OTC charge schedules and price lists, adjust changes, and order routine bank supplies for the cashiering area.
  • Assure all equipment in the cashiering area is operating in an acceptable manner and advise the supervisor of any malfunctions.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of drugs and supplies for operations, order, receive, store, return, credit, and discard drugs and supplies.
  • Pack, compound, reconstitute, and distribute inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing.
  • File prescriptions and any transaction document of pharmacy operations timely and appropriately.
  • Accept responsibility for resolving immediate problems and accomplishing assigned tasks and reporting irregularities.
  • Inspect and maintain the work area and equipment in an organized, clean, safe, and efficient working condition.
Requirements:
  • Previous pharmacy experience required or in a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Complete Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 2 years of hiring.
  • High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions and troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, multi-tasking, teamwork, and written communication.
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail, concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Completion of Pharmacy technician training program.
  • Post high school coursework training.
