About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Event Manager to join our team at Oak View Group. As a Senior Event Manager, you will be responsible for managing every aspect of assigned events from advance planning stages through the end of the event.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serves as a resource for the Event Manager staff and is the subject matter expert for all event execution, training, and support.
  • Supervises staff and oversees all aspects of event operational support related to large-scale convention center events.
  • Serves as department lead for select meetings and trainings.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of event-related programs.
  • Advances, plans, services, and supervises all assigned events.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for event personnel.
  • Analyzes challenges, identifies alternative solutions, and projects consequences of proposed actions and implements recommendations in support of organizational objectives.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with lessees/clients, co-workers, part-time staff, contractors, patrons/public, and municipal officials.
  • Works a flexible schedule, including long nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Functions as a liaison between users of the facility and the facility staff.
  • Recommends and evaluates required event staffing levels for assigned events.
  • Investigates and resolves event-related complaints in a professional manner ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Communicates with municipal officials, including police, fire, and medical services, event staff, and public to ensure security of patrons and events run smoothly.
  • Reviews emergency planning procedures with all event staff for each event.
  • Coordinates service needs with Food and Beverage provider and makes hospitality arrangements as needed.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty as scheduled.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in event management in a convention center or public facility.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with major coursework in facility management, hospitality management, business, or related field.
  • Cooperative, team spirit.
  • Confident in making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to navigate, in a professional manner, everyday event obstacles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, word processing, and Internet.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of events.
  • Ability to identify the needs of users of the facility.
  • Knowledge of crowd management and control techniques.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with facility use contracts.
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of A/V equipment and electronic systems in public assembly facilities.
  • Experience with budget preparation and control.
  • Familiarity with terminology used in entertainment/convention/public assembly settings.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with Momentus or scheduling software is preferred.
