Job Description

This is a National Guard position for an Electronics Technician. The purpose of the position is to provide technical expertise to maintain and certify Air traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS).

Responsibilities
  1. Certify assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with USAF and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safety requirements.

  2. Install, modify, test, repair, overhaul, calibrate, maintain, evaluate, and certify performance of complex integrated and interfacing electronic systems.

  3. Ensure systems are operating at peak efficiency with minimum interruptions by performing optimization, analysis, periodic testing, and corrective procedures.

  4. Make overall evaluation and determination as to whether or not the facilities are operating within prescribed standards and tolerances.

  5. Assist in formalized inspections of facilities and equipment.

  6. Assist in flight check inspection and joint acceptance of newly installed equipment and/or major modifications to the system(s) as required.

  7. Participate in the installation, modification, and final testing of all newly installed ATCALS and weather equipment.

  8. Collaborate with FAA flight inspection personnel regarding in-flight and/or ground check tolerances and make on-the-spot determinations as to what actions to take to return system(s) to operable condition.

  9. Provide advice to supervisor on significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment.

  10. Develop and recommend changes in procedures and technical instructions to ensure more efficient operations and/or reduction in maintenance time.

  11. Maintain inspection and certification records that are required by technical orders, applicable regulations, and operating instructions.

  12. Annotate modifications on historical reports and records.

  13. Document maintenance and training using computerized and manual methods.

  14. Analyze equipment historical documents and maintenance records for trends, prepare reports on trend analysis, and recommend corrective actions.

  15. Carry out supplementary assignments that improve the performance of the assigned systems.

  16. Use sophisticated stand-alone test equipment and built-in-test-equipment (BITE) to investigate, test, calibrate, analyze, isolate, and correct malfunctions in integrated systems or subsystems.

  17. Perform installation of modifications directed by headquarters or other higher authority.

  18. Repair or replace components, tune, adjust, and align equipment.

  19. Component level repair may involve designing and building testing products and research for replacement or improvement of components and circuit design.

  20. If required to meet emergency situations, develop and institute changes in procedures to expedite corrective action and ensure continuous operation where required.

Requirements

Some examples of qualifying specialized experience include:

  • Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment.
  • Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment.

Knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics; knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance; and knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering.
