Position Overview

The Chief Medical Affairs Officer at Renown Health is a senior physician executive responsible for fostering collaboration between hospital administration and the Medical/APP personnel. This role is pivotal in cultivating a healthcare environment that prioritizes outstanding clinical practices, enhances patient satisfaction, ensures safety, and promotes continuous quality enhancement. Working closely with hospital executives, the Chief Medical Affairs Officer is instrumental in achieving operational effectiveness, managing resource utilization, and facilitating patient flow and transfer processes. This position also plays a crucial role in addressing complaints and grievances, supporting risk management, and optimizing resource allocation.

The Chief Medical Affairs Officer reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Renown Health and has an indirect reporting line to the Chief Executive Officer of Renown Regional Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities

A. Clinical Quality and Patient Safety:
  • Advocate for exceptional, compassionate care, focusing on key performance indicators such as CMS star ratings and Leapfrog Safety Scores.
  • Support initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience and clinical transformation.
  • Collaborate with quality departments to oversee and promote best practices.
  • Lead patient safety initiatives, striving for zero avoidable harm and fostering a culture of high reliability.
  • Facilitate resolution of complaints and grievances related to medical staff, ensuring transparency in quality metrics.
B. Resource Management:
  • Drive operational efficiency and resource optimization, promoting best practices in care delivery.
  • Oversee Utilization Management and Clinical Documentation Integrity.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop effective admission, discharge, and triage protocols.
C. Liaison Role:
  • Establish strong relationships with medical staff and serve as a key liaison with the Medical Executive Committee.
D. Medical Staff Oversight:
  • Participate in patient care reviews and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of medical staff policies and procedures.
E. Regulatory Compliance:
  • Lead efforts to ensure compliance with state and national regulatory standards.
  • Support quality accreditation initiatives and resolve behavioral concerns involving medical staff.
F. Educational Support:
  • Foster a positive learning environment for students, residents, and fellows.
This position does not involve direct patient care, although this may be negotiable based on the candidate's preferences.

Qualifications

Education:
Medical Degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution is required. An MBA or credentials in Medical Management are preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of ten years in a leadership role within a clinical setting is essential, with a focus on quality management and process improvement. Proven experience in healthcare quality, resource management, and patient safety is required.

Licensure:
Current Nevada Licensure as a Physician (or plan to acquire).

Certification:
Board Certification is required.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to utilize information systems for clinical management.
