About the Position

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor in the area of applied soil physics. This tenure-track position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the School of Natural Resource Sciences at North Dakota State University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research in applied soil physics and hydrology, with a focus on improving soil resources and managing water in agricultural systems.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their academic and professional goals.
  • Develop a nationally recognized research program, securing funding through external sources and collaborating with colleagues to advance our understanding of soil science.
  • Teach a course related to the discipline, sharing your expertise with students and contributing to the university's commitment to excellence in education.
  • Serve on School, College, and University committees, participating in decision-making processes and contributing to the development of policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in soil science or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Research experience in soil hydrology and/or physics, with a strong publication record and a demonstrated ability to secure funding.
  • Experience generating field and laboratory research data, with a focus on soil science and hydrology.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present research findings to academic and industry audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Desire to work collaboratively with farmers and land managers to improve soil resources and manage water in agricultural systems.
  • Expertise in water, gas, and heat transfer and chemical transport in field and laboratory soils.
  • Experience working directly with farmers and land managers, with a strong understanding of their needs and challenges.
  • Ability to secure funding through external sources, with a track record of successful grant writing.
