Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Practice Assistant to join our Thoracic Surgery team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating patient testing, scheduling surgeries, and ensuring seamless communication between departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient testing and scheduling of surgeries in Epic
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and hospital staff to ensure timely and accurate information exchange
  • Ensure all necessary insurance authorizations and precertifications are obtained prior to testing and surgery
  • Proactively interact with different departments within the hospital and with outside agencies to ensure efficient patient care
  • Coordinate with admitting office to obtain necessary insurance authorizations and precertifications for surgery
  • Schedule surgeries and pre-admission testing in Epic in a timely manner
  • Review and update daily OR schedule, Epic, and Snapboard
  • Print out weekly OR schedule for each surgeon's clinic to assess available OR time
  • Make changes as necessary and/or requested by physician
Requirements
  • Utilize Epic to schedule patient testing and coordinating clinic appointments in a timely manner
  • Check for and obtain all necessary insurance authorizations/precertifications prior to testing
  • Schedule surgeries and pre-admission testing in Epic in a timely manner
  • Proactively interact with different departments within the hospital and with outside agencies in a professional manner and timely fashion
  • Proactively interact with patients and members of the Division to ensure that patient concerns are addressed and followed up by the appropriate personnel within the division in a timely fashion
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of Epic and other hospital systems a plus
