Job Summary

The Patient Billing and Collections Supervisor 2 plays a crucial role in ensuring the maximum reimbursement for all services rendered by the physicians at the University of California, San Francisco. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily billing and collections for designated payers, coordinating and monitoring staffing levels for AR staff assigned, and analyzing and resolving billing system and processes, reimbursement/collection issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct hiring, orientation, training, performance reviews, progressive discipline, and terminations of designated staff.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure that client reporting and billing needs are satisfied as assigned.
  • Conform to all UCSF, SFGH, CPG, government, and HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement productivity tools and reports to improve department operations.
  • Provide thorough and accurate review of complex subordinate work and oversee coordination of ongoing tasks and projects over extended periods of time.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of lead/supervisor/manager experience.
  • Demonstrated supervisory, organizational, and customer service skills to effectively supervise and prioritize the activities of subordinate staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, and of billing and/or collections internal procedures and external regulations.
  • Solid knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to evaluate and document human resources matters and performance.
  • Strong skills in quality customer service, interpersonal skills to manage conflict and collaborate effectively with all constituent groups.
  • Solid leadership skills to coach and improve staff performance.
  • Skilled in written and verbal communications, with the ability to serve as a resource, to convey complex clinical finance and business information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Computer proficiency in all relevant hardware, software, and specialty information systems used throughout the department.
