Music Instruction Specialist

Melbourne, Florida, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

This role does not require attendance during school holiday periods.

The position at range 3 involves management responsibilities and accountability for delivering professional support services. The role typically influences areas beyond the immediate work environment or professional discipline. It aims to foster collaboration among staff members and the school community to achieve specific goals, particularly in school administration, operations, or educational initiatives.

While direction on objectives and targets is provided, the position allows for some flexibility in determining how these are accomplished. This flexibility is generally constrained by established procedures and school policies. Any deviations from these standards will necessitate guidance from senior management.

At range 3, the role incorporates business management responsibilities. A key duty is the management of staff to meet expected outcomes. Issues related to staff management should be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although assistance may be required in more complex situations. Senior management will receive timely reports and advice, primarily concerning the immediate work area, service delivery, or educational programs, without significantly affecting overall school operations.

This range is the minimum for positions requiring a mandatory qualification of at least four years. Professional student support roles, such as therapists and psychologists, are characteristic of range 3, where standard professional services are provided. Professional support and guidance will be readily available, and any deviations from established procedures and school policies will require direction from senior management.

An education support class position aids in delivering educational services to students but must not encompass teaching duties as defined in the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students is not a requirement unless it is an integral part of the employee's role or involves overseeing students individually or in small groups under controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains with a teacher.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver suitable repertoire for students
  • Organize and instruct small group ensembles
  • Prepare and arrange sheet music as needed
  • Maintain musical instruments and report necessary repairs
  • Attend student performances and college events
  • Participate in college meetings and IMT meetings as determined by the Head of Music
  • Assist in the preparation for college concerts and events
  • Utilize COMPASS for setting up schedules and maintaining timetables
  • Complete interim and end-of-semester reports for the college
  • Develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) as required

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should possess the aptitude, experience, and/or qualifications necessary to meet the specific requirements of this position.

Commitment to EEO and OHS

Individuals seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and may request a reduced time fraction if selected. Such requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, subject to the operational needs of the school.

The Department of Education is dedicated to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion for all. We value diversity in all forms, including gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTIQ+, disability, and neurodiversity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for roles within the Department. We recognize that providing family-friendly, supportive, safe, and harassment-free workplaces is essential for high performance and promotes flexible work, diversity, and safety across all schools and Department workplaces.

Additional support and guidance on the recruitment process are available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders from the Koorie Outcomes Division (KOD).

Child Safe Standards

Victorian government schools are committed to being child-safe environments. Our schools actively promote the safety and well-being of all students, and all staff are dedicated to protecting students from abuse or harm in the school environment, in accordance with their legal obligations, including child safe standards. All schools adhere to a Child Safety Code of Conduct consistent with the department's exemplar.

Department Values

Employees of the department commit to upholding the department's Values: Responsiveness, Integrity, Impartiality, Accountability, Respect, Leadership, and Human Rights. These values complement each school's own values and underpin the behaviors expected of Victorian public sector employees, including those working in Victorian Government Schools.

Additional Information

This is a multi-campus college, and travel between campuses may be necessary.

Applicants must possess a current and valid working with children's check.

Work hours are to be determined.

Employment Conditions

  • All staff employed by the Department and schools have access to a wide range of employment conditions and working arrangements.
  • The appointment of successful candidates will be contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment conditions check.
