The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for a dedicated and innovative team member to fill the role of Research Analyst for Community Safety Initiatives. This full-time position will be responsible for conducting data analysis and assessing trends related to violent crime and community resilience, while identifying effective strategies for violence and firearm crime prevention and intervention. Key responsibilities include preparing reports and presentations that detail research findings for statewide violent crime reduction initiatives, facilitating data sharing among state and local agencies, and ensuring compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in establishing the Office of Safer Communities as a central hub for data on community violence and prevention efforts.
  • Oversee statewide data related to violence intervention and prevention, ensuring high standards for data collection and management.
  • Analyze trends in firearm-related and domestic violence, presenting findings to community groups and officials.
  • Encourage collaboration among various agencies, including health departments and law enforcement, to share data on violence prevention programs.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and provide insights based on data analysis.
  • Prepare annual reports detailing progress on funded initiatives and evaluate community-based violence prevention efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Proven experience in conducting and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in evaluating existing research and conducting literature reviews.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and database management, particularly in Excel.
  • Ability to convey findings to diverse audiences effectively.
  • Experience managing projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of juvenile justice, criminal justice, or victim services programs.
  • Capability to analyze data to identify trends relevant to policy and decision-making.
  • Experience in performance measurement and program evaluation.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to implement new initiatives.
  • Ability to articulate program objectives clearly in written and oral formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience in juvenile justice or victim services programs.
  • Knowledge of intervention and prevention strategies in criminal justice.
  • Familiarity with local and statewide policies related to prevention and intervention.
  • Research experience focused on the root causes of firearm violence.
