ROLE SUMMARY:

The Wellness Program Coordinator is responsible for conducting fitness equipment orientations, advocating for YMCA health services, ensuring equipment maintenance, and upholding recreational standards. This position may require flexibility in scheduling, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate proper usage of fitness equipment and exercise techniques.
  • Monitor member activities across fitness areas, including the gym and locker rooms.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in all fitness spaces.
  • Deliver exceptional service to all members.
  • Conduct tours for prospective members.
  • Address and resolve member concerns effectively.
  • Stay informed about developments in health and wellness.
  • Prepare equipment for group fitness classes and sports events.
  • Enforce YMCA member guidelines consistently.

Additional duties may be assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

COMPENSATION:

$17.24 per hour; Part-Time; Non-Exempt (up to 25 hours per week)

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or GED is required; enrollment in college courses is preferred. Candidates should have three to six months of experience in fitness instruction or personal training, or a comparable combination of education and experience. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for engaging with diverse populations. Familiarity with computers and various software applications is also required. Previous experience with YMCA programs is a plus.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR, AED, Oxygen, and First Aid Certification must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training is required.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT) is necessary.
