Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel

Overview:
The Consumer Bankruptcy Counsel is tasked with managing all aspects of bankruptcy cases for the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Your role involves overseeing your caseload and ensuring exceptional service and outcomes for clients. This encompasses, but is not limited to:
- Consulting with current clients
- Preparing and filing bankruptcy petitions primarily under Chapter 7 and Chapter 13
- Filing under any other applicable bankruptcy chapters
- Collaborating with fellow Attorneys and support personnel regarding the procedures followed in the firm's bankruptcy division, including process steps, necessary documentation, local filing standards, and judicial preferences
- Reviewing all bankruptcy submissions such as proofs of claim, schedules, petitions, notices of mortgage payment adjustments, and notices of fees and costs
- Drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions, notices, certifications, objections, orders, memoranda, and correspondence
- Participating in hearings, settlement discussions, and mediation sessions
- Keeping clients informed about the status and progress of their cases through appropriate communication channels
- Promptly addressing and responding to inquiries received via phone, email, or client management systems from clients, staff, opposing counsel, court personnel, trustees, mediators, etc.
- Escalating issues as necessary
- Performing additional tasks as assigned
Office Expectations:
Work Hours
- Start of the workday: At a minimum, you are expected to be in the office by 9 AM (or immediately after if covering an early hearing)
- End of the workday: At a minimum, you should remain in the office until 6 PM
- Preparation for weekly meetings with supervising Attorneys
- Communicate clearly with clients at critical stages to ensure effective case management
- Adhere to firm policies, particularly regarding attendance, paid time off, and dress code
- Act as a cooperative team member
- Maintain a high level of organization
- Be proactive and results-driven
- Timely complete all necessary administrative duties, including but not limited to:
- Time tracking
- Effectively utilizing the firm's case management system for all files, including documentation of notes and tasks
- Using the firm's productivity tools and reports to monitor case progress and manage workflow
- Exhibit a strong commitment to client service
- Respond to client communications promptly
- Safeguard the client's interests when filing for bankruptcy, ensuring they are fully informed of the implications of filing under specific chapters
