Key Responsibilities
- Execute accurate specimen collection and labeling procedures for both routine and specialized tests.
- Utilize standard laboratory techniques in phlebotomy, ensuring correct patient identification and proper sample collection methods, including:
• Volume and tube type
• Temperature and timing conditions
- Manage the accessioning of all specimens in the receiving area, ensuring timely transport and distribution for immediate processing and testing.
- Communicate with laboratory personnel to facilitate sample transport during peak workload periods.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid phlebotomy certification from an accredited organization.
- Completion of an approved phlebotomy training program or equivalent experience.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a patient service technician or phlebotomist within the last three years.
- Preferred: 2-3 years of phlebotomy experience in an acute care environment.
Required Skills
- Proficient in blood collection techniques, including venipuncture and capillary methods for patients of all ages.
- Experience with urine drug screen collections, paternity testing, and breath/saliva alcohol testing.
- Familiarity with LCM/Cyber Tools, TestCup, pediatric blood collections, and challenging draws.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach overhead during the work shift.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist and carrying up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
