The Department of OBGYN presents an exciting opportunity for a full-time Clinical Nurse 2 to work in a dynamic healthcare environment.

The Clinical Nurse 2 provides patient-centered care in a culturally sensitive manner, employing evidence-based practices to ensure quality, safety, and service while catering to the specific needs of diverse patient populations.

The Clinical Nurse 2 supervises nursing staff and allied health professionals in their daily responsibilities.

  • Evaluates assigned patients and formulates care plans, including thorough documentation of nursing interventions. Communicates changes in patients' conditions and vital signs, adjusting treatment plans as necessary based on patient responses and physician directives.
  • Reviews and interprets diagnostic tests to assess patient health status.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient care strategies.
  • Prepares patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, considering their age and cultural background while providing essential information regarding care plans. Fosters a supportive environment by offering psychological assistance.
  • Conducts necessary patient tests and administers medications safely within the scope of practice. Maintains accurate records related to medications and treatments in accordance with regulatory standards and institutional policies.
  • Effectively communicates care plans to patients and their families, as well as to relevant team members, ensuring adherence to all regulatory guidelines (i.e., HIPAA). Implements best practices for transitioning patient care.
  • Utilizes available resources to facilitate discharge planning.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and modifies assignments to achieve objectives and deliver exceptional patient care; seeks assistance when required.
  • Adapts to evolving work demands and environments. Operates medical equipment safely.
  • Acts as a mentor and assists new staff in providing care, helping them acclimate to the healthcare setting and direct patient care roles. Provides constructive feedback as necessary.
  • Complies with University and unit-level policies and procedures while safeguarding institutional assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Registered Nurse License; Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • Proficient in medical terminology
  • Familiarity with nursing care methodologies and protocols
  • Comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures (i.e., sanitation, decontamination, etc.)
  • Exceptional patient experience skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication
Department Specific Functions

  • Conducting fetal non-stress tests, administering weekly injections, assisting with appointment scheduling, and providing patient education on prenatal care and triage situations.
  • Under supervision, communicating lab results to patients, processing prescriptions, and ensuring that patients understand follow-up and referral information. Offering general health education within the scope of expertise and as directed by supervising practitioners;
  • Preparing, cleaning, and sterilizing instruments while maintaining equipment; ensuring patient exam rooms are orderly; disposing of contaminated materials according to standard operating procedures; anticipating practitioners' needs for medications, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assisting with diagnostic tests and procedures according to established protocols and training. Ensuring patient privacy and comfort during examinations; instructing patients on sample collection and other tests.
  • Actively engaging in continuing education and meetings; participating in committees as needed; and pursuing professional development activities while maintaining professional affiliations.
  • Triage and respond to patient inquiries via telephone using approved protocols; ensuring documentation meets established standards.
