Medical Education Leader

VCU Department of Family Medicine & Population Health is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Vice Chair of Family Medical Education. As a dual clinical faculty member, you will hold an appointment with both Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and MCV Physicians (MCVP), which is the faculty practice plan of VCU Health.
Department Mission and GoalsThe VCU Department of Family Medicine and Population Health aims to be a leader in providing improved access to healthcare, promoting health equity, and achieving better health outcomes for the people of Virginia and beyond. Our vision is to create a world where everyone has access to high-quality primary care and public health services grounded in the science of family medicine and epidemiology.
Clinical Responsibilities- Provide exceptional patient care as a Family Medicine Physician.
- Commit to serving underserved communities and providing full-spectrum outpatient primary care to patients of all ages.
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients and develop treatment plans as needed.
- Administer comprehensive wellness exams and refer patients to specialists when necessary.
- Treat a wide range of medical issues, focusing on the whole patient, including mental and emotional well-being.
- Manage and administer the department's Family Medicine medical education team across teaching, service, and scholarship domains.
- Advocate for educational program funding, development, and improvement across the full spectrum of medical education, including pipeline, UME, GME, and faculty development.
- Advise the Department Chair on educational priorities, funding needs, clinician-educator recruitment, and infrastructure support for educational programs.
- Participate in the Department's research and scholarship programs, serving as a mentor and co-author for faculty with interests in medical education scholarship.
- Ensure that all education programs meet and exceed compliance standards and policies, including accreditation standards and trainee safety/well-being.
- At least 5 years of experience practicing clinically as a Family Medicine Physician.
- Licensure to practice clinically in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to obtain a license.
- Experience suitable for appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
- Experience with medical education innovation and/or development of new medical education programming.
- A history of providing care to underserved populations across multiple settings.
