Job Overview

Make the Road New York (MRNY) seeks a skilled Workplace Justice Organizer to join our team in Queens. This full-time position will be based in our Queens office, with some expectation of travel throughout New York City and New York State.


The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in community organizing or labor organizing, with a proven track record of building strong relationships with community members and leaders. The successful candidate will be fluent in Spanish, have a strong commitment to developing and elevating member leadership, and be able to work collaboratively in multicultural spaces.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Build and engage a strong base of community members and leaders to advance campaigns that positively impact low-wage workers;
  • Maintain participation of members and ensure the success of bi-weekly committee meetings in our Queens office;
  • Support the leadership and growth of members to lead campaigns;
  • Work with the Lead Organizer to achieve recruitment, mobilization, and campaign goals set by the Organizing Department;
  • Win campaign victories that positively affect members' lives while building strong alliances that leverage MRNY's power at the local, state, and federal level;
  • Support civic engagement initiatives, including voter registration and Get Out the Vote efforts;
  • Represent MRNY in external meetings and events with ally organizations and elected officials;
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure collaboration between organizing and service support programs;
  • Participate in monthly all-staff and team meetings throughout NYC and NYS.

Requirements:



  • Be eligible to work in the United States;
  • Have at least 2 years of experience in community organizing or labor organizing;
  • Must be fluent in Spanish;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multicultural spaces;
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and elevating member leadership;
  • Be able to work some evenings and weekends;
  • Be able to travel throughout NYC, NYS, and Washington D.C.;
  • Must have a valid drivers' license, comfort driving a vehicle that carries 7 passengers, and willingness to on occasion drive a 15-passenger van.

Salary and Benefits:


Starting salary is based on a scale set by a democratically-elected personnel committee and will depend on factors such as experience and education. MRNY offers an excellent benefit package, including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, and personal days.
