Advocate for Survivors of Violent Crimes

The Advocate provides critical support to survivors of violent crimes, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care and well-being. This role involves providing crisis intervention, ongoing support, and community outreach to promote knowledge and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities- Provide on-call services during work hours, overnight, and weekends to support survivors of violent crimes.
- Offer initial and ongoing support to survivors, providing victim, referral, and advocacy information through a telephone hotline and in-person services.
- Represent the YWCA by maintaining professional standards and ethics.
- Develop and implement professional training for medical, criminal justice, and social service personnel on non-judgmental service provision to victims of violent crimes.
- Conduct presentations and training for community groups and organizations to promote community sensitivity to violence.
- Interact with first responders to develop and implement victim-centric policies.
- Complete required statistical reports and maintain records for direct service and volunteer programs.
- Participate in volunteer recruitment, training, and retention, including coordination and supervision of volunteer programs.
A minimum of six months to a year of experience working in sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, gang violence, gun violence, or other trauma-related services is required. Previous training in sexual assault and/or related issues is preferred. Experience as an employee or volunteer for other nonprofit organizations is advantageous.
