Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research experiments, maintaining laboratory equipment, and assisting with data analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research experiments, including generating DNA constructs, manipulating mouse embryos, and maintaining a mouse colony.
  • Perform various laboratory techniques, such as developmental biology, cell culture, immunohistochemical, and molecular biology.
  • Assist with data analysis, including simple data analysis in Excel and plotting results on charts.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, including ordering supplies and negotiating price quotes.
  • Document results of experiments and create presentations of results.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience, which may include student experience.
  • Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of basic molecular biology.
  • Mouse or zebrafish husbandry and colony maintenance.
  • PCR-based genotyping.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and computers.
  • Rigorous attention to detail and excellent organization and record keeping skills.
Physical Demands

This position requires extensive periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation are also required.
