Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care in our Eye Clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct visual acuity tests, stereo vision, and color vision assessments using specialized equipment.
  • Evaluate ocular anatomy, ocular motility, and papillary responses to assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Perform autorefraction and ophthalmic photography, including external and fundus photos.
  • Accurately record patient information in our electronic medical record system.
  • Maintain and care for ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
  • Provide patient education and instruction within the scope of your knowledge and as directed by physicians.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within one year of hiring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive customer service skills.
Work Environment

This role requires working in a fast-paced clinical environment with frequent exposure to biohazard waste, chemicals, and loud noises. You will be required to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods, as well as use computer skills and machinery.
