Key Responsibilities- Operate and maintain power plant equipment, including chillers, boilers, high temperature hot water generators, and pumps.
- Monitor and maintain logs of system temperatures, pressures, flows, and other critical parameters.
- Operate computerized control systems to optimize energy efficiency and performance.
- Respond to service requests from the university community and perform repairs as needed.
- Supervise assigned personnel and provide guidance and support as required.
- Participate in emergency response efforts, including hurricanes and floods.
- Perform routine inspections of outlying buildings, mechanical rooms, and systems to identify potential issues and recommend repairs.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational schooling in related fields desirable.
- City of New Orleans Stationary Engineers Certificate of at least Second Class for both air-conditioning and boilers.
- Three years of experience in maintenance and operation of power plant equipment, with at least one year in a plant of comparable size.
- Ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
- Good oral and written communication skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Good interpersonal relationship skills, with ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Requires a working knowledge of mechanical systems, energy management, and computerized systems and software.
- Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass a driver background information investigation and driver education courses as required.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent exposure to noise, heat, dust, and other hazardous conditions. Must be able to lift heavy objects, handle large wrenches, and work in cramped areas. Considerable walking is required.

Part-time employees who work an average of 30 hours per week over the course of a year receive certain benefits on a pro-rated basis.
