Sustainability Specialist for Operations and Engagement

About the Role

Baylor University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sustainability Specialist for Operations and Engagement to join our team. As a key member of our sustainability team, you will be responsible for implementing and executing environmental sustainability initiatives across the university, working closely with diverse campus and community partners to build a culture of sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate the work of Baylor's Sustainability Committee as an ex-officio member.
  • Assist in sustainability reporting and assessment of sustainability programs through AASHE STARS and other relevant reporting and assessment frameworks.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainability goals and objectives that align with the university's vision and mission.
  • Implement projects and programs to support the institution's sustainability vision and goals, under the direction of the Senior Director.
  • Integrate engaging co-curricular programs related to sustainability that foster a culture of stewardship amongst the student body.
  • Establish and maintain communications about sustainability initiatives and topics to campus and broader community.
  • Connect various sustainability initiatives between academic and non-academic departments to synergize efforts and outcomes.
  • Maintain and manage sustainability records and reporting requirements related to sustainability efforts.
  • Assist the Senior Director in maintaining connections with local and regional partners.
  • Proactively outreach with the greater campus community for sustainability initiatives and practices.
  • Assist in finding and completing grant opportunities to fund sustainability initiatives.
  • Partner with Facilities Management team members to infuse sustainability principles into capital project design and daily operations & maintenance of facilities and grounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years minimum experience involved with sustainability programs, projects, and/or initiatives, preferably in higher education.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with multi-disciplined teams across the institution.
  • Familiarity with the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) preferred.
  • Certified Energy Manager, LEED Certification, or other related certifications preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed for special events or meetings.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
