Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Quality Assurance Specialist to join our team at Golden State Foods. As a Quality Assurance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of our raw materials and packaging, as well as investigating and resolving any quality issues that may arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections and testing of in-coming raw materials and packaging to ensure compliance with GSF company requirements and manufacturing standards.
  • Troubleshoot, investigate, and react to non-conforming raw materials and packaging, including product dispositions, corrective actions, and credit requests.
  • Maintain electronic databases housing quality records, such as internal specifications and vendor documents, including COAs.
  • Routinely interact with plant personnel, supplier representatives, and outside vendors on any raw material and packaging issues.
  • Develop strong working relationships with supplier contacts (Quality, Customer Service, and/or Purchasing).
  • Monitor aging raw material and packaging inventory and react accordingly, including requests for shelf life extensions and communication with materials management.
  • Manage raw material and packaging holds as needed, to ensure non-compliant items are properly segregated. Initiate raw materials or packaging destructions as required.
  • Lead projects related to the implementation and maintenance of FSMA Supply Chain management program for LPNA, such as label verification and supply chain applied controls.
  • Perform annual supplier audits as part of the GSF supplier audit team as required.
  • Follow laboratory safety policies, company policies, procedures, and standards for safety, GMPs, and HACCP.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to Purchasing and Product Development during vendor, raw material, and/or packaging approvals and new finished product commercialization.
  • Participate in the sensory evaluation of raw materials and finished products as required.
  • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned.
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in food science, chemistry, microbiology, or a related field of science from an accredited college or university. Additionally, we require 5 years of relevant work experience, with an understanding of food safety and regulations.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance concepts and techniques.
  • Knowledge of FSMA (Preventive Control Qualified Individual).
  • Knowledge of internal auditing.
  • Knowledge of HACCP programs and related food safety regulations and processes.
  • Knowledge of food processing equipment.
  • Knowledge of food testing concepts and techniques.
  • Knowledge of PC word processing/spreadsheet software.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to identify problems or irregularities for early resolution.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal and external customers verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and process written information with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform a variety of food safety tests.
  • Ability to work effectively in a business environment, with a focus on high levels of quality and customer service.
  • Ability to act in accordance with GSF's Values and Creed.
