Job Title: Recreation Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at Universal Health Services. As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned patients, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement activity services for assigned patients
  • Define and implement treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients
  • Teach coping skills and stress management techniques to patients
  • Model and teach appropriate social skills
  • Contribute to treatment plan with specific goals and interventions to be achieved in therapeutic sessions
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Art, Music, or Recreation therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline
  • One (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred
  • Certification or licensure as CTRS is required
  • Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of Handle with Care training
Working Conditions:

The Recreation Therapist will work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to stand, sit, or walk up to six hours, sit for up to two hours, and move frequently in the delivery of patient care. The ability to spend 20% of the work day outdoors in temperatures varying from 30-100F and 80% of the work day indoors in temperatures varying from 60-85F is also required.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to occasionally push/pull wheeled carts from 200 Ibs, frequently lift and carry up to 10 Ibs, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 Ibs. The ability to frequently reach above, at or below shoulder height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist, and handle, through gross and fine manipulations, simple grasping, twisting and fingering of small objects is also required.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to work in an environment where the noise level is frequently high, where chemicals are frequently used for cleaning, where mechanical and electrical hazards may be occasionally present, and where dust, mist, and steam are frequently generated in housekeeping tasks.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information and adhere to safety policies and procedures.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to work as a team player and demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication. The ability to problem solve, utilizing good judgment, and accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures is also required.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent, adult, and geriatric) and work in a fast-paced environment.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to meet corporate deadlines and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

The Recreation Therapist will be required to maintain a strong knowledge of The Joint Commission, HCFA, OSHA regulations, and patient rights standards and all other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.
