- Administer para-professional nursing care, including preparing patients for physician exams and recording laboratory tests.
- Assist in coordinating patient needs, including preparing and organizing patient clinic charts.
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training of staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide excellent patient care.
- Assist in prioritizing and assigning work based on workflow fluctuations, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Handle and/or act as a resource for difficult or complex issues, providing guidance and support to staff as needed.
- Support management in determining methods and procedures for new tasks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform all functions of a medical assistant, including stocking patient rooms and departments with supplies and equipment.
- Conduct audits of departments for supplies and equipment, performing ordering functions as necessary.
- Collaborate with members of the healthcare team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
- May record patient history for medical staff review, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Perform measurement and screening procedures according to protocol, including height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, audiometry, and vision testing.
- Collect specimens, including drawing blood, and/or assist the physician or nurses in collection of specimens, as required.
- Complete requisitions, labels, and routes specimens according to standard procedure.
- May perform electrocardiograms in accordance with physician orders.
- Assist physicians and nurses with examinations and procedures related to the clinical area-of-assignment, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for patients.
- Ensure that all data collected for procedures performed is recorded clearly and accurately on appropriate forms and in medical records.
- Perform a variety of other functions, including maintaining medical records, processing insurance forms, and preparing financial records.
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certificate, or 1-3 years' experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician, or certified nursing attendant (with valid certificate).
- Successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program, or 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
