Job Overview

Position Summary: This role assists the on-duty pharmacist by performing various essential tasks to ensure efficient pharmacy operations.

  • Welcome patients, visitors, and others upon arrival.
  • Manage prescription processing through data entry, insurance claim adjudication, and medication distribution to patients at the time of pick-up.
  • Assist clinical staff in gathering necessary information for prescription dispensation as required.

Reports to: Pharmacy Manager

Supervises: N/A

Dress Code: Scrubs in accordance with company policy.

Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday through Friday during standard business hours, subject to change based on operational needs.

Classification: Non-Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate pharmacy services by accurately assembling and dispensing medications in a patient-focused manner.
  • Process prescriptions in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Handle prescription adjudication through insurance while considering patient out-of-pocket costs and seeking cost-effective medication solutions.
  • Respond to inquiries from healthcare providers and patients via phone, computer, and in-person interactions.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records in compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Manage inventory, including conducting annual controlled substance inventories and daily monitoring of stock medications and supplies.
  • Perform non-sterile compounding as required.
  • Exhibit attention to detail, strong analytical skills, excellent customer service, and reliability.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and a commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to every patient.

  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements and necessary training programs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Registration (Trainee or Registered/Certified) with the relevant state board of pharmacy is mandatory.
  • National certification from an accredited pharmacy technician program is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the 340B program is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in a retail pharmacy setting is preferred.
  • Experience with pharmacy software systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of medication dispensing laws and regulations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of third-party payer benefits and claims troubleshooting is beneficial.
  • Ability to accurately enter data with a typing speed of at least 45 wpm.
  • Proficient in entering prescriptions and related information as directed by the pharmacist.
  • Capable of managing challenging situations with sound judgment and diplomacy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Exhibit courteous and efficient telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.

Work Environment: The pharmacy operates in a professional medical office environment, featuring a reception area, patient examination rooms, and pharmacy stock areas.

Physical Requirements: The role may require mobility, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, dexterity, hearing, visual acuity, and clear verbal communication.
