Position Overview:


Under minimal supervision and utilizing Magnetic Resonance Imaging technology, the MRI Imaging Specialist is responsible for generating high-quality diagnostic images of various anatomical structures including the brain, spinal cord, and other critical areas of the human body.

This role involves executing both standard and advanced imaging protocols while adjusting hardware settings and technical parameters to optimize image quality for accurate diagnosis by healthcare professionals.


Key Responsibilities:
Adheres to Kaiser Permanente's policies, procedures, and relevant legal regulations.

Core Duties:
Ensures compliance with all applicable regional and departmental guidelines.

Demonstrates awareness of the cognitive, physical, and emotional development of patients across different age groups in the provision of imaging services.

Evaluates patient data to determine specific needs and delivers appropriate care in line with departmental standards.

Maintains accurate and timely documentation of clinical activities. Upholds professional standards to enhance service quality. Exhibits strong communication skills and maintains professionalism in all interactions with patients and colleagues. Ensures that equipment, supplies, and workspaces are kept in accordance with departmental protocols.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

Engages with patients to clarify MRI procedures, gather medical histories, and perform necessary screening for in-vivo metal objects; aligns the requested imaging with patient history and clinical indications. Positions patients correctly for imaging, ensuring optimal alignment with the magnet isocenter. Selects and positions the appropriate coils for imaging to maximize signal quality and applies suitable monitoring devices based on patient conditions. Achieves optimal MR imaging by selecting and applying various imaging parameters, including field of view, slice thickness, and repetition time; modifies protocols as necessary to enhance image quality and addresses any artifacts.

Identifies the need for additional imaging sequences or contrast studies based on patient conditions or imaging results.

Utilizes advanced MR applications such as angiography and spectroscopy as required. Inputs specific patient data into the imaging system and adjusts settings for optimal imaging outcomes. Reviews images to ensure quality and captures results using appropriate imaging technology.


Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in an acute care setting, with at least six (6) months of experience specifically in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
  • Current KP Coalition employees may have this experience requirement waived.
Education

  • Completion of an accredited radiological technology program recognized by the American Medical Association and the American College of Radiology, along with formal training in cross-sectional anatomy and MRI.
Licenses and Certifications

  • Radiologic Technologist Certification (California)
  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • Basic Life Support Certification

Additional Skills:

  • Proficient in the principles and techniques of magnetic resonance imaging, including patient care and safety protocols.

Preferred Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience as an MRI Technologist in an acute care environment, with knowledge of computed tomography.
  • Familiarity with GE MRI systems and advanced MRI practices.
  • Advanced Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging from ARRT and experience with PACS.

Work Schedule:

  • Weekly hours will range from 20 to 32.
  • Current schedule includes various shifts that may vary based on operational needs.
  • On-call duties may be required.
