Job Summary

As an MRI Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in producing high-quality diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vasculature. Under indirect supervision, you will utilize Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment to acquire images that can be utilized by physicians to diagnose disease processes and pathology.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
  • Observe all applicable Regional, Medical Center, and department policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age group served.
  • Assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Provide care needed in accordance with department policy.
  • Document clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain standards of professional behavior established to enhance quality of service.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct in all interactions with patients and staff.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and work area in accordance with department guidelines.
Essential Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interview patients to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures, obtain patient history, and conduct imaging screens.
  • Correlate requested exams with patient history and diagnosis.
  • Position patients as required for requested exams or use variations to ensure proper positioning of patients to the magnet isocenter.
  • Select appropriate coils for requested exams and position coils to demonstrate areas of interest and obtain maximum transmit and receive signal.
  • Select monitoring devices and support equipment as required by patient condition.
  • Obtain optimal MR imaging throughout the entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters.
  • Perform tuning procedures and utilize appropriate protocols for producing optimal images.
  • Identify and use appropriate planes for a particular exam.
  • Modify protocols as required to produce optimal images.
  • Recognize the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols, and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition, or image quality problems.
Basic Qualifications
  • Two years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in an acute care medical center or six months of clinical experience as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist in an acute care medical center.
  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
Education
  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program in radiological technology approved by the American Medical Association and the American College of Radiology.
  • Successful completion of an on-the-job or formal training program in cross-sectional anatomy and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Basic Life Support.
