ShelterCare's Short Term Housing Program is looking for a full-time Housing Support Specialist. This role is essential in assisting program participants residing in our shelter units, ensuring that all program activities, policies, and procedures align with our agency's core values and mission. The Housing Support Specialist is classified as a non-exempt position with a starting wage of $22.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

A degree in social work or a related discipline, or equivalent experience; 1-3 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental health challenges; familiarity with mental health, substance use disorders, and homelessness services; and experience in providing interventions for this demographic.

Key Skills

Proficiency in crisis de-escalation; strong communication abilities; negotiation and collaboration skills; effective scheduling and time management; leadership capabilities; risk management; critical thinking and problem-solving skills; proficiency in technology for email, spreadsheets, and documentation; ability to manage confidential information; and strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Physical Demands:

This role requires sitting for a significant portion of the workday (at least 50% of the time); repetitive motion involving substantial use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers (computer usage). Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screens, and extensive reading, primarily on a computer monitor. Occasional travel may be required for offsite meetings and sessions.
