Role Summary:
The Sleep Study Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive sleep disorder assessments in a safe and precise manner as directed by medical professionals. This role involves the operation of specialized equipment essential for diagnosing and treating sleep-related conditions. The specialist may also be tasked with calibrating testing apparatus and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct sleep studies while adhering to established protocols and standards.
- Collaborate with physicians to determine appropriate testing parameters and methodologies.
- Score and analyze sleep/wake cycles accurately.
- Maintain detailed records of all procedures conducted, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Supervise complex and atypical testing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the standards set forth by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists.
- Provide guidance and oversight to junior Polysomnographic Technicians as needed.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to focus and make informed decisions with a high degree of skill and accuracy.
- Proven capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications relevant to the role.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Polysomnographic Technologist, with a preference for pediatric sleep experience.
- Current registration in good standing with recognized credentialing organizations, such as:
- The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT)
- The American Board of Sleep Medicine (RST)
- The National Board of Respiratory Care (SDS)
