Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Behavioral Specialist to join our team at YMCA Southcoast. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting children with diverse abilities and emotional needs.

About the Role

The Behavioral Specialist will work closely with the Clinician, counselors, nurse, and administration to implement strategies that promote positive engagement among children. They will communicate effectively with staff and families, displaying character traits such as honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility. This position requires a deep understanding of Positive Youth Development principles and experience working with at-risk populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Support Team, including co-leading Tuesday morning team meetings to review Children Concern Logs.
  • Support the Clinician in developing individual support plans that recognize each child's uniqueness and interests.
  • Implement behavioral modification plans and teach emotion regulation skills to campers.
  • Liaise with families and collaterals to provide updates and problem-solve challenges.
  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to front-line counselors on minimizing common behavior problems.
  • Maintain proper documentation and engage in clinical supervision.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • An understanding of positive behavioral approaches and Positive Youth Development principles.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working with children with emotional and behavioral disturbances, preferably in a camp setting.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills, demonstrating professionalism with staff, parents, and participants.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations is an asset.
