Patient Access Coordinator

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Access Representative to join our team at Appalachian Regional Healthcare. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient service, registering patients, and ensuring accurate and timely processing of patient accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Greets patients and visitors, determines their needs, and offers assistance.
- Registers patients by preparing records, reports, and payor information.
- Interviews patients to determine payment arrangements and refers unusual cases to the supervisor.
- Assists self-pay patients in making suitable arrangements for balances due.
- Answers patient inquiries and advises on insurance benefits.
- Receives payments, issues receipts, and makes proper accounting for all funds received.
- Posts charges and payments to patient accounts daily.
- Contacts insurance carriers to obtain precertification for procedures.
- Operates office equipment, including copiers and fax machines.
- Provides general receptionist services, answering phone calls and maintaining records.
- Makes and maintains appointment schedules for Clinic Physicians.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, basic computer skills, and knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, and ICD-10 coding. You must also be able to type 30 words per minute accurately and operate various office machines.
