Job Title: Civil Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Inspector to join our team at Kleinfelder. As a Civil Inspector, you will be responsible for performing quality assurance inspections and documentation of civil construction activities under the direction of a Resident Engineer.

Job Duties:
  • Perform quality assurance inspections and documentation of civil construction activities.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and codes to verify that construction work is performed in accordance with them.
  • Prepare detailed daily inspection reports with photos, accurately reflecting the construction progress.
  • Measure, calculate, track, and record pay quantities for monthly estimates.
  • Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain a set of field as-built drawings.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer with field input on change orders, RFIs, submittals, response letters to the contractor, and as-built drawings.
Qualifications:
  • EITHER
  • Minimum of two (2) years of education equivalent to completion of a curriculum beyond the 12th grade in either engineering, surveying, or a comparable physical science.
  • OR
  • One year performing duties comparable to those of a California state service Junior Engineering Technician, Range B, and Minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated experience in roadway construction inspection of highways or major public works projects, including traffic control, PCC and AC paving, earthwork, grading, drainage, and signing and striping.
  • OR
  • Minimum of six (6) years of demonstrated experience in roadway construction inspection of highways or major public works projects, including traffic control, PCC and AC paving, earthwork, grading, drainage, and signing and striping.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering and/or EIT.
  • Caltrans inspection experience.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of Caltrans standard plans, specifications, procedures, and Construction Manual.
  • Ability to assist the Resident Engineer in all aspects of required field and office construction engineering work, including but not limited to:
    • Experience in the inspection of traffic control system compliance.
    • Experience in Water Pollution Control Program (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) enforcement.
    • Knowledge and experience with equipment used in construction inspection, surveying, field testing of construction materials, and construction office engineering.
    • Proficient computer skills with expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and Adobe Acrobat; experience with CAD and Primavera P6 is a plus.
    • Knowledge and experience with principles of effective communication and supervision.
    • Ability to work night shifts for an extended duration.
