Job Title: Bioinformatics Group Lead

MITRE is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bioinformatics Group Lead to join our team. As a Group Lead, you will be responsible for providing strategic vision, ensuring the professional development of staff, and growing impactful work programs related to computational biology, data analytics, AI/Bio, and synthetic biology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership to core Department work programs
  • Serve as the direct supervisor for 7-10 assigned staff, providing technical support, conducting regular performance and development conversations, staff advocacy and recognition, and communication with Project/Task Leads on performance
  • Recruit and hire staff, including identifying when additional staff are required and participation in candidate presentations and technical panel interviews
  • Collaborate and communicate with staff and Project/Task Leaders, serving as a proactive liaison between staff and Department/upper management
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, data analytics, qualitative research, synthetic biology, or a related field and 8 years related experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret security clearance
  • Demonstrated expertise and proven track record in bioinformatics, computational biology, synthetic biology or a similar field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and advocate for staff
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree and 10 years of experience or Ph.D. and 5 years' experience
  • At least one year of experience working in a MITRE Innovation Center
  • At least one year of experience as project or technical lead of a computational biology or synthetic biology related project
  • Management experience, either at the project or department level
