Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Health Services Coordinator to join our team at Portage Child Care Center. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional healthcare services to our students, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine students' health status upon arrival and provide appropriate care and referral if necessary
  • Administer medications and perform selected health procedures per established guidelines
  • Assist students with health, hygiene, activities of daily living, and other personal needs
  • Make referrals to school social worker, guidance counselor, administrator, school staff, and community agencies as appropriate
  • Notify site administrator or designee at once if an emergency situation exists, including notification if a call is made to 911
  • Make every reasonable attempt to notify the parent or emergency contact person regarding medical emergencies as soon as possible
  • Follow district protocol as contained in the clinic's procedure manual
  • Perform clerical duties regarding health services, including organizing, filing, and maintaining health information in a confidential manner
  • Documentation of health services provided
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies while maintaining confidentiality
  • Keep the health room organized, orderly, and clean at all times
  • Coordinate breaks and lunches with the school secretary as needed to ensure coverage in the office and clinic
Qualifications and Skills
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Knowledge of areas of pediatric health, including physical, emotional, and mental health
  • Ability to work independently or with others
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to assess situations and act quickly
  • Ability to multitask
  • Computer experience with Word, Excel, and Google apps preferred
  • Interest in working with children and adolescents and their health needs
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, sitting, climbing, and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (25 pounds or more) as well as use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the school corporation.

The employee is expected to adhere to and agrees to adhere to PTS Core Values, the PTS Strategic Plan, as well as all PTS District policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the civility policy.
