Position Overview: This role encompasses the authority, responsibility, and accountability for delivering nursing care through the application of the nursing process. The individual in this position is accountable for their actions, employs proficient clinical knowledge and skills, and utilizes independent nursing judgment for care provided both personally and by delegated healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care outcomes.

Qualifications:

Education, Certification, and Licensure:

  • Must hold a current, unencumbered license with the appropriate state board of nursing as a registered professional nurse.
  • Graduate nurses are required to obtain licensure within a specified timeframe after hire.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support is mandatory within a designated period following the start date.

Core Responsibilities: The following duties are intended to outline the general nature of the work performed by individuals in this role. They are not exhaustive and may include additional responsibilities:

  • Ensures safety and continuity of care through effective documentation and communication processes.
  • Develops comprehensive care plans utilizing the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Identifies patient safety concerns and addresses them appropriately.
  • Provides tailored education based on the unique learning needs of each patient.
  • Incorporates individual patient data into the delivery of care.
  • Conducts thorough patient assessments and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Utilizes the teach-back method to assess the effectiveness of patient education.
  • Employs Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) in all aspects of nursing care.
  • Engages in organizational patient-centered care initiatives.
  • Documents any issues or problems in the care plan.
  • Demonstrates growth in managing more complex patient cases through collaboration with experienced colleagues.
  • Commits to lifelong learning through self-reflection and ongoing education.
  • Maintains accountability for all delegated nursing care.
  • Recognizes the scope of practice for all members of the interprofessional team.
  • Participates in culturally sensitive data collection.
  • Assesses the influence of family dynamics on patient health and wellness.
  • Integrates the American Nursing Association (ANA)'s code of ethics into nursing practice.
  • Identifies and addresses discriminatory healthcare practices within diverse populations.
  • Customizes care based on patients' beliefs, barriers, and readiness to learn.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position include:

  • Minimizing manual lifting of patients and adhering to safe patient handling protocols.
  • Engaging in physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving materials weighing over 40 lbs.
  • Maintaining normal visual and auditory acuity.

Working Environment: The work environment includes:

  • Irregular working hours.
  • Exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases.
  • Working with deceased individuals and handling equipment associated with patient care.
