Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team at Irving Independent School District. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in promoting the health, well-being, and academic achievement of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and develop individual health plans for students, implementing care and evaluating results to ensure programs meet the health needs of students.
  • Collect and maintain student health records, adhering to medical documentation per nursing regulations and completing documentation in a timely manner in the district's electronic medical program.
  • Manage clinical functions, including medical care, nursing systems, communication, and maintaining supplies, while keeping the clinic attractive and orderly.
  • Provide individual and group health instruction, including education with instructional pamphlets and materials for health-related concerns.
  • Train, orient, supervise, and coordinate the duties of assistive personnel, including clinic assistants, clinic substitutes, student nurses, and clinic volunteers.
  • Ensure confidentiality for all students and staff members receiving care in the school clinic.
Requirements
  • Professional Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas Nurse License and Certificate from the State Health Department for vision, hearing, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) screening.
  • CPR Instructor certification.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in clinical nursing, with five (5) years preferred.
Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens. Responsibilities may require lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, and pushing, as well as occasional prolonged working hours.

Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional organizations, such as the Texas School Nurse Association (TSNO) and Region X, National Association of School Nurses (NASN), Texas School Health Association (TSHA), and American School Health Association (ASHA).
  • Subscribe to professional periodicals and introduce best practices to professional school nursing.
  • Maintain required CEUs for nursing licensure and adhere to the Professional Nursing Code of Ethics, Board of Nursing rules and regulations, and district policies.
