About the Role

The University of Miami is seeking a highly motivated and organized Development Associate to support the Division of Development and Alumni Relations in the Community Fundraising department. This role will play a key part in developing and implementing a strategic fundraising plan to capture philanthropic support from a portfolio of prospects at the $5,000 level and above.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a strategic fundraising plan for UHealth/MSOM in collaboration with the Executive Director, DCC & Community Fundraising and Philanthropy Officer, Community Fundraising.
  • Identify prospective community fundraising donors and funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and third-party organizations in support of strategic UHealth MSOM priorities.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the assigned projects and key donors.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the UHealth's and MSOM's needs, both general and specific to various programs and departments.
  • Assist the Philanthropy Officer, Community Fundraising in documenting any contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in IBIS and other appropriate donor files.
  • Assist the Philanthropy Officer, Community Fundraising in ensuring that past donors are regularly communicated with and re-solicited on a timely basis.
  • Attend third-party organizations' fundraising events.
  • Work closely with the DCC team and assist in all collaborative efforts regarding Team Hurricanes.
  • Work with UHealth Marketing on branding efforts and messaging for recruitment, activation, and post-event follow-up.
  • Distribute Community Fundraising event marketing materials to our different satellite locations.
  • Work with volunteers to assist in identifying, rating, cultivating, and soliciting donors.
  • Work with outside vendors to order all marketing materials for Community Fundraising.
  • Responsible for ordering and tracking Community Fundraising inventory, including collateral, giveaways, etc.
  • Assist with management of Community Fundraising budgets.
  • Prepare written proposals for prospects and donors.
  • Prepare support documentation for gift acceptance in accordance with UM accounting procedures.
  • Assist Philanthropy Officer with all logistics pertaining to third-party events and programs.
  • Manage and coordinate third-party organizations' participation in the DCC, such as The Pap Corps, and WCA to the extent needed.
  • Follow all University Advancement policies and procedures and complete all Advancement trainings.
Requirements
  • Candidate must have a bachelor's degree with one year of fundraising or event experience. Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered.
  • Must be knowledgeable about fundraising and event management.
  • Candidate must have an excellent command of the English language; excellent oral and written communication skills are required, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidate must be organized, creative, energetic, and assertive.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Exceptional work ethic and commitment are essential.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud CRM a plus.
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Excel, Microsoft Word essential.
