Key Responsibilities:- Customs Compliance: Ensure timely and compliant import shipments, adhering to all relevant regulations and laws.
- Regulatory Expertise: Develop and maintain a centralized database of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, and provide expert guidance on import regulations.
- Communication and Collaboration: Interface with purchasing, logistics, and external vendors to facilitate cross-border clearances, and ensure timely entry filing.
- Recordkeeping and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of import shipments, and ensure compliance with customs regulations, including data required for valuation and free trade agreement compliance.
- Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize customs processes to streamline operations, reduce lead times, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (graduate level education a plus).
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in customs compliance with a large importer or customs brokerage.
- Certifications: Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation, U.S. CBP licensed customs broker license, or similar certification required.
- Customs Laws and Regulations: In-depth knowledge of customs laws and regulations, import clearance procedures, and international supply chain and logistics operations.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with ability to operate independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in customs brokerage software and electronic data interchange (EDI) systems.
