Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our Community Development team. As a key member of our team, you will assist in all functions of city planning and zoning, advising builders, developers, and property owners on ordinance requirements, and providing technical design assistance when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reviews, evaluates, and approves building plans for compliance with zoning and sign ordinances.
  • Performs site inspections to determine code and ordinance compliance.
  • Informs property owners of ordinance violations and initiates enforcement procedures.
  • Assists in revisions, updating, and developing new ordinances and policies.
  • Serves on the team of staff members for the Planning Commission.
  • Prepares zoning request staff reports for the Planning Commission.
  • Prepares zoning letters as requested.
Requirements
  • A High school diploma or GED; 4 years of relevant work experience is required; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Licensing in: Valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of: Customer service principles, regulation enforcement principles and practices, applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, report preparation principles and practices, basic technology.
  • Skills in: Providing customer service, preparing reports, enforcing ordinances, making time-sensitive decisions, operating basic technology, using a computer and related software applications, communication and interpersonal skills.
About You

To be successful in this role, you should have some or all of the following:

  • A High school diploma or GED; 4 years of relevant work experience is required; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Licensing in: Valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of: Customer service principles, regulation enforcement principles and practices, applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations, report preparation principles and practices, basic technology.
  • Skills in: Providing customer service, preparing reports, enforcing ordinances, making time-sensitive decisions, operating basic technology, using a computer and related software applications, communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is estimated to be around $38,400 per year, based on the location and industry standards. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, 11 paid holidays, one floating holiday, retirement plan through PERA, health insurance coverage through Medica, term life insurance, long-term disability insurance, West Hills Fitness Center membership, and Employee Assistant Plan (EAP).
