Position Overview

The Vice President of Engineering - Innovation and Technology is a key leadership position focused on spearheading innovation and technological progress within the organization. This role involves leading a talented team of engineers and technologists, promoting a culture of creativity, collaboration, and excellence. Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Engineering, this position is crucial in defining the company's technological vision, strategic roadmap, and long-term growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Innovation Strategy: Formulate and implement an innovation strategy that aligns with corporate objectives and market dynamics. Identify emerging technologies and industry shifts to foster innovation within the organization.
  • Technology Roadmap: Work with cross-functional teams to outline and prioritize technology projects. Develop and maintain a detailed technology roadmap that supports business goals and enhances competitive positioning.
  • Research and Development: Oversee R&D initiatives to investigate new technologies, methodologies, and product improvements. Manage prototype development, feasibility assessments, and proof-of-concept projects.
  • Team Leadership: Cultivate and mentor a high-performing engineering team. Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development opportunities to nurture technical talent and encourage a culture of innovation.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Forge strategic alliances with technology providers, research institutions, and industry partners to leverage external expertise and resources. Collaborate with internal teams to integrate third-party solutions and promote innovation across the organization.
  • Product Innovation: Collaborate closely with product management and design teams to convert customer needs and market insights into innovative product offerings. Champion user-centric design, rapid prototyping, and iterative development processes to drive product innovation.
  • IoT and AI: Ensure the quality, scalability, and security of IoT and AI technologies while keeping abreast of industry trends to maintain a competitive advantage. Work with internal departments to establish and sustain partnerships with external vendors and technology collaborators.
  • Technology Stack: Define and enhance the company's technology stack to ensure scalability, performance, and security. Assess new tools, frameworks, and platforms to optimize engineering productivity and facilitate future growth.
  • Quality and Compliance: Establish high standards for software quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Implement best practices for software development, testing, and deployment to ensure products meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with other functional leaders across various business units to align technology initiatives with corporate objectives. Effectively communicate technical concepts and priorities to diverse stakeholders, including executives, investors, and customers.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the engineering organization. Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for innovation and optimization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics, Software Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 20 years of engineering experience in product development and/or core technology development.
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience in product, technology, or innovation engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering or Business.
  • Extensive experience in software development, architecture, and engineering management, ideally in fast-paced, technology-driven environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.

Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.

In-depth knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in software development and engineering.

Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, drive change, and deliver results in a dynamic and evolving environment.
