Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Deputy District Director of Maintenance, a Principal Transportation Engineer, the incumbent is responsible for implementing, evaluating, and sustaining major programs and maintenance policy in the District 10 Valley Region. The incumbent will advise and consult with top-level district and statewide management, propose new programs, directions, or legislation as appropriate. A valid driver's license is required.

Eligibility for Hire

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Maintenance Manager II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Positions located in Stockton, San Joaquin County. While at the base of operation, the manager will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial light. However, due to periodic problems with region concerns, work outside in cold and heat extremes may be required.

Special Requirements
  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a valid and unrestricted Class C driver's license.

Statement of Qualifications - the SOQ is to be no more than two pages in size, 10 pt. Arial font, describing how the applicant's work history and educational background make them the ideal candidate for the position. Failure to include a SOQ will disqualify the applicant from being considered for the position.

1. Demonstrate positive networking and alliances with maintenance operations with focus on people first working with encampments.

2. Demonstrate oversight in Integrated Maintenance Management Systems (IMMS) procedures and maintenance budget to ensure compliance within allocations and performance of assigned positions.

3. Demonstrated experience in effectively leading, supervising, and directing maintenance staff in performance measures.

4. Demonstrate safety in leadership; describe how responding to safety challenges, implementing interventions, and evaluating progress.
