Position Overview: The role involves delivering specialized gastroenterology healthcare services to patients, assessing health issues, and implementing treatment plans in partnership with a pediatric gastroenterologist from MNGI, as well as coordinating referrals for additional care as necessary.

Core Responsibilities: To excel in this position, the individual must fulfill the essential functions effectively, with regular attendance being a requirement. The responsibilities outlined below represent the primary functions of the role; additional tasks may be assigned as needed. Key Duties:
  • Provide care in both clinic and hospital settings supported by MNGI.
  • Conduct initial and follow-up consultations with patients in both inpatient and outpatient environments in collaboration with a gastroenterologist.
  • Gather patient medical history, perform physical examinations, and provide education to patients as appropriate.
  • Accurately document patient interactions in a timely manner to ensure continuity of care and proper billing.
  • Submit thorough and compliant coding and billing for services rendered.
  • Initiate and oversee treatment plans for both preventive and chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Authorize medication prescriptions and manage prescription refill requests within 24 hours.
  • Review and approve laboratory results within a 72-hour timeframe.
  • Utilize formularies and guidelines to assist patients in managing healthcare costs.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of electronic health records.
  • Apply MNGI disease management protocols and guidelines in clinical decision-making.
  • Adhere to MNGI Provider Education requirements during onboarding and annually thereafter.
  • Coordinate inpatient video capsule procedures and other hospital-based interventions as per established guidelines.
  • Participate in occasional weekend hospital coverage as assigned or arrange for coverage.
  • Engage professionally, promptly, and compassionately with MNGI staff, physicians, and external stakeholders.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned to fulfill organizational needs.

Education and Experience: Candidates must possess one of the following degrees:
  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, with a focus on Nurse Practitioner.
Licenses/Certifications: A valid Nurse Practitioner license or Physician Assistant license is mandatory. Additionally, applicable state licenses for MN and WI are required.

Maintaining a BLS certification is essential.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to walk, sit, reach overhead, bend, and stand for extended periods.
