Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for assessing patients in our designated service. This role involves conducting physical examinations, collaborating with patients and healthcare professionals, and participating in the coordination of patient care. The NP reports to the Chief of the designated service and the Department Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Practices under established procedures for the NP role, consistent with Kaiser Permanente policy and California Board of Registered Nursing requirements.
  2. Conducts age-appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examinations, consistent with department protocol.
  3. Performs ongoing systematic assessments, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy.
  4. Consults with supervising physicians or other clinicians as needed, based on patient assessment findings.
  5. Participates with physicians and other clinicians to ensure effective patient care, consistent with quality indicators for patients in the designated service.
  6. Reviews medical records for follow-up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  7. Establishes and maintains communication with other healthcare providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness, promoting consistency and continuity of care.
  8. Develops effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families, acknowledging staff rights and cultural and ethical beliefs.
  9. Delegates tasks and coordinates duties of healthcare team members, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified by the institution, performing efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols.
  11. Participates regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel, demonstrating knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  12. Participates in unit and department Performance Improvement activities, identifying and solving problems effectively.
  13. Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare team members, demonstrating proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track, and convey information.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • Two years (within the past three years) experience as a NP providing specialized care for persons undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing (unless already a Kaiser Permanente employee who was grandfathered in prior to California Business and Professions Code requirement in January 1, 2008).
  • Completion of a Masters Program in Acute Care NP required. If only caring for specific patient population of adult or pediatrics, then Acute Adult NP or acute NP Pediatric required.
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate (California), Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number (California), Registered Nurse License (California), Nurse Practitioner National Certificate, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Additional Requirements
  • Must meet credentialing requirements established for nurse practitioners within the Kaiser system.
  • Candidates must meet requirements to apply for PTAN (Provider Transaction Account Number) at the time of hire and apply within 30 days of hire.
