Position Overview
Keene Young Mens is in search of dedicated part-time Aquatic Safety Officers to join our vibrant Aquatics Center team. As a vital member of our aquatic staff, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the well-being of all individuals utilizing our facilities. Your responsibilities will include maintaining secure swimming environments in the pool, on the deck, and in adjacent areas, fostering a safe and engaging atmosphere that encourages participation while adhering to our organizational policies and procedures through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Valid certifications from the American Red Cross or YMCA for Lifeguarding, along with CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications, are mandatory. If you currently lack these certifications, you may qualify for complimentary training in exchange for one year of service with Keene Young Mens.

Key Responsibilities of the Aquatic Safety Officer

  • Cultivates meaningful connections with members, participants, volunteers, and guests while exemplifying our commitment to DEI and the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Maintains vigilant observation by consistently scanning the pool area and routinely patrolling to monitor blind spots, steam rooms, and saunas.
  • Familiarizes with and reviews all emergency protocols, responding to emergencies promptly in line with our policies and the safe-in-six model (Prevent, Recognize, Activate EAP, Rescue, Care, Report).
  • Understands and consistently applies safety regulations, policies, and guidelines for the aquatic environment.
  • Keeps accurate records as mandated by our organization and/or relevant health department regulations.
  • Conducts equipment inspections and ensures necessary equipment is available.
  • Assesses the pool for any hazardous conditions upon arrival.
  • Performs chemical testing when not actively guarding, as required, and takes appropriate actions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 16 years
  • Ability to maintain a certification-level of physical and mental readiness
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard competencies in accordance with YMCA/ARC standards
  • Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in DEI or extensive training and relevant work experience
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen
  • 5+ years of lifeguarding experience
