Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard to join our team at the Keene Family YMCA. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants in our Aquatics Center, maintaining safe swimming conditions, and creating a positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests, exemplifying the Y's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the four-character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility.
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, regularly walking around to check blind spots, steam room, and sauna.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures, responding to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and the safe-in-six model.
  • Maintain effective, positive, culturally aware relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
  • Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area, maintaining accurate records as required.
  • Perform equipment checks, ensure appropriate equipment is available, and perform chemical testing when not guarding.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions and perform other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/ARC standards.
