Position Overview:

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor at Pet Supplies Plus is tasked with ensuring the optimal performance of systems and machinery by executing preventive maintenance protocols, diagnosing, repairing, refurbishing, or replacing malfunctioning components and parts. This role involves overseeing the maintenance crew.

As the organization expands, the supervisor will have maintenance leads reporting directly to them, dedicating a significant portion of their time—approximately 60-70 percent—to hands-on repair and maintenance activities. The remaining time will be allocated to supervising team members and external contractors while executing general management duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a proficient maintenance team through effective recruitment, training, motivation, and development initiatives.
  • Providing guidance, support, and conflict resolution for team members to foster a productive work environment.
  • Collaborating with management to set priorities and schedule tasks to meet operational demands.
  • Engaging with local contractors and suppliers for necessary equipment and services.
  • Managing procurement of parts and services for the upkeep and repair of facility equipment.
  • Assigning and prioritizing service requests for the maintenance team, ensuring timely completion and follow-up on outstanding issues.
  • Conducting daily inspections of the premises to mitigate liability risks and maintain an appealing environment.
  • Implementing a preventive maintenance strategy that prolongs the lifespan of the facility and its equipment while reducing future repair needs.
  • Identifying and executing energy conservation initiatives.
  • Overseeing maintenance inventory management in alignment with budgetary constraints.
  • Ensuring a well-organized and adequately stocked maintenance workshop while adhering to safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Managing the key control system.
  • Scheduling and directing maintenance personnel in the execution of all repair tasks within budgetary limits.
  • Guiding team members in performing scheduled maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and operational guidelines.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Conducting performance evaluations for the maintenance and facility team.
  • Supervising two shifts of up to 20 maintenance and facility personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of formal education in a relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience with conveyor systems in a distribution environment.
  • High level of motivation and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical abilities, capable of reporting and recommending solutions to challenges.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and best practices in maintenance.
  • Expertise in electrical systems, mechanical processes, construction, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Mobility and flexibility to use ladders to reach heights exceeding eight to nine feet.
  • Capability to perform general maintenance tasks safely and effectively.
  • Frequent bending and stooping to access necessary equipment and machinery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A valid driver's license.
