Purpose of Classification:
The aim of this role is to ensure cleanliness and upkeep of municipal buildings and facilities. This is a full-time position assigned to the Department of Public Safety headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:
The following tasks are typical for this position. The absence of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Additional tasks may be required and assigned.

1. **Custodial Duties:**
Responsible for cleaning City-owned buildings and facilities, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and/or shampooing various surfaces in hallways, offices, restrooms, kitchens, and public areas. This includes dusting and polishing furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces, as well as disinfecting bathrooms and replenishing supplies.

2. **Waste Management:**
Empty trash and recycling containers, replace liners, and ensure proper disposal of waste materials. This includes separating recyclables and transporting waste to designated areas.

3. **Routine Maintenance:**
Perform minor repairs and upkeep, such as replacing light bulbs, patching walls, and maintaining plumbing fixtures.

4. **Building Security:**
Manage security measures by turning off lights and equipment, locking doors, and ensuring alarm systems are operational.

5. **Courier Services:**
Deliver and collect mail and packages between City facilities and the post office, utilizing a City vehicle as necessary.

6. **Event Preparation:**
Assist in setting up facilities for special events, including moving furniture and arranging seating.

7. **Safety Compliance:**
Adhere to safety protocols by reporting hazards, using safety equipment, and monitoring the work environment to ensure safety for all.

8. **Inventory Management:**
Monitor and maintain inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring availability for work activities.

9. **Problem Reporting:**
Identify and report issues such as leaks, electrical problems, or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.

10. **Documentation Processing:**
Handle various documentation related to departmental operations, ensuring timely processing and record-keeping.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in routine facilities maintenance or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role.

Licensure:
Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in performing essential functions and the ability to learn and apply City policies and procedures effectively.

Physical Requirements:
This role requires moderate physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and prolonged standing, with some lifting and carrying of moderate-weight objects.

Environmental Factors:
Exposure to various environmental conditions, including dirt, dust, odors, and other potential hazards, is expected in the performance of essential functions.
