Primary Objective
The Logistics Operations Supervisor collaborates closely with the Logistics Manager to oversee all Logistics Technicians, ensuring that daily operations align with industry standards for safety and efficiency. This role involves coordinating various activities, including safety protocols, training initiatives, shift management, scheduling, performance evaluations, and corrective measures.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs and prioritizes tasks among teams to guarantee compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, quality assurance, and customer expectations.
- Effectively communicates objectives, activities, and targets throughout the work shift.
- Adheres to all organizational policies and safety protocols, working in conjunction with the Logistics Manager to maintain team discipline and documentation.
- Proactively informs the manager of significant issues and implements corrective actions or suggests alternative solutions as necessary.
- Recommends and executes essential supervisory functions to manage personnel efficiently.
- Enforces all organizational policies and procedures.
- Fosters positive working relationships with all employees to create a cooperative and productive work environment, enhancing morale and efficiency.
- Coordinates with Maintenance to ensure clarity on work requests.
- Oversees work order tracking and issuance.
- Monitors the condition of packaging equipment, forklift maintenance, and rail operations.
- Drives continuous improvement through updates to procedures.
- Establishes best practices and key performance indicators (KPIs) for an efficient packaging process.
- Maintains strong communication with all logistics personnel, maintenance technicians, and contractors.
- Acts as a liaison to contractors, including managing site access as needed.
- Ensures equipment functionality by enforcing operational procedures, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating preventive maintenance with the Maintenance Planner.
- Stops any activity that poses a risk to personnel or the environment.
- Collaborates with Customer Service Representatives to optimize dock scheduling.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Works with the Logistics Manager to uphold necessary certifications for logistics operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Associate's Degree in business operations, logistics management, procurement, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in warehouse or packaging environments.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Exceptional leadership abilities, including goal-setting, motivation, and workforce management.
- Must possess active DOT and IMDG certifications for domestic and international shipping.
- Experience operating forklifts.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb 5-10 flights of stairs multiple times.
- Capability to climb ladders (both fixed and portable).
- Ability to sustain overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and twisting.
- Capacity for continuous sitting and standing.
- Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs., and maneuver tools/equipment easily.
- Willingness to work in various outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
- Ability to walk unassisted on diverse surfaces (gravel, concrete, asphalt, grating, dirt).
- Ability to communicate verbally via radio.
- Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, eye protection, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, chemical suits, steel-toed shoes, and fall arrest gear.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises employees and executes supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving issues.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time role with a standard 40-hour work week. The working hours for this position will rotate weekly:
- 6:30 AM – 2:30 PM
- 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM
