Job Summary

The Paramedic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services department. This includes ensuring the safety of patients and staff, as well as maintaining compliance with ambulance service policy # EMS 307.

Key Responsibilities
  • Confirm daily staff performance of equipment preparation and inspection, vehicle and office cleaning.
  • Collect and document all pertinent information.
  • Perform QA/QI of charts during each shift.
  • Respond to high-acuity and mass casualty calls.
  • Confirm dispatch information, determine best route to and from calls, drive responsibly and safely.
  • Assign calls and determine additional resource needs, initiate assessment and treatment based on each situation.
  • Assist crews with collecting information, restocking, and other logistics such as maintenance and refueling.
  • Create staffing plans and coverage for out-of-town transfers, provide plans and logistics.
  • Assist with restocking ambulances, drug boxes, and equipment, and ensure completion of all reports and data information.
  • Perform ambulance maintenance, equipment maintenance, and ensure radio equipment is operational.
  • Respond to calls within time guidelines and deliver care appropriate to patient needs within basic and advanced life support guidelines.
  • Maintain competency in delivery of emergency medical care requiring the use of suction, immobilization equipment, intravenous infusions, medications, cardiac monitors/defibrillator/pacer, and performance of other skills within scope of practice.
  • Participate in continuous education program to improve competence in ambulance service and operations.
  • Working knowledge of city/county geography and ability to safely drive an ambulance under emergency conditions.
  • Complete patient care reports at time of care delivery and accurately document care.
  • Adhere to facility guidelines, as well as state/federal laws, regulations, and guidelines for emergency medical services.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with local pre-hospital providers, hospital, and within the community served.
  • Able to lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
  • Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and provide critical information.
  • Communicate with call coordinators and/or dispatch to receive call data.
  • Perform basic patient care with minimal supervision and within established policies on all age groups within the Emergency Department, such as vital signs, venipuncture within hospital guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Uses common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick.
  • Understands technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals, and labels.
  • Uses eyes, ears, hands, and fingers with skill.
  • Acts quickly in an emergency, rendering appropriate life-saving measures.
  • Communicates with people.
  • Changes from one duty to another frequently.
  • Follows and/or gives precise instructions.
  • Records and interprets information accurately.
  • Able to care for patients of all ages.

Licensure and Certification: Paramedic License in the state of Alabama required. FP-C, CCP-C with Alabama Critical Care Endorsement preferred.
