Your Role:

The surgical technologist plays a vital role in preparing and managing surgical supplies, equipment, and the operating room environment. This position requires a thorough understanding of surgical instruments, the ability to assemble complex mechanical devices, effective planning skills, and a solid foundation in anatomy. Strong anticipatory skills and dexterity are essential. The surgical technologist must stay informed about new products, procedures, and techniques used by physicians. This role supports Surgical, CVOR, and GI services to ensure a safe and effective environment for patients and staff. All activities performed by the surgical technologist are under the direct supervision of the perioperative registered nurse and the operating surgeon.

  • Collaborates with team members to ensure all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are ready for procedures.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of aseptic techniques in line with AORN standards.
  • Exhibits flexibility and adaptability in assigned duties, prioritizing tasks effectively and assisting colleagues with minimal supervision.
  • Understands preoperative diagnoses, common complications, and operative pathology relevant to surgical procedures.
  • Utilizes surgeon's preference cards to implement a care plan during surgical operations.
  • Selects and prepares essential supplies and equipment for procedures.

Qualifications:

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proficiency in the English language
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is mandatory
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician is required
