Shift Differential of 10% for Evenings and Nights

Additional $1.00 per hour if you have a Fireguard license or once it's obtained which is mandatory

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Campus Security Specialists (CSS) play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and security of the campus. They uphold law and order, enforce college policies, and coordinate with law enforcement when necessary. Ideal candidates will possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and sound judgment. CSS report to Manhattan College Supervisors and are tasked with the following responsibilities:
  • Safeguard Manhattan College personnel and facilities from fire hazards, accidents, and vandalism; enforce all regulations as outlined in the department manual for Security Officers.
  • Secure premises and personnel through property patrols; monitor surveillance systems; inspect buildings, equipment, and access points; grant entry as appropriate.
  • Protect the assigned building structure and grounds, including its contents, occupants, and visitors; patrol as designated and proactively address any hazards or conditions that may cause injury or disruption, reporting them immediately.
  • Document incidents by recording observations, information, occurrences; interview witnesses; obtain necessary signatures.
  • Ensure proper functioning of equipment and systems; troubleshoot issues; request repairs as needed.
  • Adhere to procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, property patrol, parking enforcement, and incident investigations.
  • Assist visitors courteously; return lost or found items to the Campus Security Office; aid ill or injured individuals in obtaining care, and report such events promptly via radio and appropriate reporting forms.
  • Utilize computer systems and technology, including access control, visitor management, and security camera systems.
  • Campus Security Specialists will be assigned to work day, evening, or overnight shifts based on departmental needs. The role requires working holidays, weekends, nights, and various shifts, including mandatory overtime when necessary. CSS are considered Essential Personnel to maintain the safety and security of college property, personnel, affiliates, and visitors.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid NYS Guard License, NYS Department of State's 8-hour mandated certificate training.
  • First Aid Certification; F-01/F-03/F-04 COF license is a plus. Must obtain within 90 days of hire; minimum 1-year prior security experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in a college campus setting is advantageous.
  • Must be physically fit.
  • Able to engage in strenuous physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Willing and able to perform duties in inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to write clear reports, operate a portable radio, and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations.
